Rancho Mirage is a resort city that rose to fame after World War II. Found near Palm Springs in California’s Coachella Valley, much of the city’s early fame is tied to the Annenberg Estate, which is also known as Sunnylands. Owned by Walter and Leonore Annenberg, Sunnylands was completed in 1966 and served as a popular vacation destination for celebrities. Among those who vacationed at Sunnylands were Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Fred Astaire, Gregory Peck, Ginger Rogers, and Bing Crosby. The list goes on, and it should be noted that several U.S. Presidents and numerous other dignitaries have also visited the property. Guided tours, while limited, allow the general public to get an up-close look at the famous estate. Other things that are found in Rancho Mirage include the world-renowned Betty Ford Center, several golf courses, a casino, and an assortment of lodging establishments.
