Plans can be made at least 90 days in advance. They also specialize in group tournaments at Torrey Pines, perfect if you want to bring your golf buddies along with you. This celebrated course, which hosted the 2008 U.S. Open, is home to the annual Buick Open. Mere mortals can play the course outside of the tournament times and join in one of the clinics to work on their swing. For an added bonus, its restaurant is one the top dining spots in the entire San Diego region.

If you only have a short time to spend with San Diego golf, one of the day-use courses would be perfect for you. Besides Torrey Pines, you could soak in the canyon scenery of Steele Canyon along the 27 holes of its championship course. Golf pro Phil Mickelson sharpened his swing at the Carlton Oaks Country Club. This public course is known for its deep bunkers and wandering creeks. After time putting and chipping on the greens, you might be shooting as well as Mickelson.

When you want of spend your vacation having fun rather that driving from place to place, it's helpful to make plans at one the area casino resorts. With so many things to do at one place, you can spend your time wisely. One of the casino golf courses near San Diego, Barona Casino, is one of the highest rated courses in the region. The spectacular course with manicured fairways and challenging roughs covers more than 7,000 yards.

You'll also find casino golf courses near San Diego in the wine country of Temecula at the Pechanga Resort & Casino. Its course, called the Journey, winds through amazing scenery, and offering challenges for beginners and well-seasoned golfers alike.
