La Jolla Shores Beach

La Jolla Shores Beach is one San Diego’s favorite beaches, located within in the exclusive neighborhood of La Jolla, California. It features one mile of soft, clean sand nestled between the sea cliffs of La Jolla Cove and the shores of Black Beach. The desirable neighborhood of La Jolla Shores features excellent shopping and dining, as well as exclusive residences. La Jolla Shores Beach is also home to Scripps Institution of Oceanography and Scripps Pier.

The gentle waves of La Jolla Shores Beach make it a particular favorite of water sports enthusiasts. Scuba divers especially enjoy the San Diego-La Jolla Underwater Park Ecological Reserve just south of the beach, and beginning scuba lessons are often held here. Novice surfers enjoy the calmer waters in the southern part of the beach, while more experienced surfers ride the larger waves to the north. La Jolla Shores offers the only boat launch in the city, making it a popular spot for kayakers.

Families love La Jolla Shores Beach because of its child-friendly atmosphere. Ocean waves are often very gentle, and lifeguards here are plentiful and attentive. The beach is also located next to Kellogg Park, which offers areas of grass and a playground. Other park amenities at La Jolla Shores include BBQ grills and fire pits for picnics. There is a large parking lot adjacent to the beach and a clean public bathroom. Volleyball courts are also available for use.

One of the most popular lodging options in La Jolla is the La Jolla Shores Hotel, situated right on the beach.
