You’re under ten miles from the heart of downtown San Diego when you book a stay at one of the Ocean Beach hotels or vacation rentals, so you can easily enjoy all that San Diego and the surrounding area have to offer. When searching for lodging in Ocean Beach, your options will be relatively limited, as this place has managed to maintain its small town charm. Of course, you can always look into the expansive array of San Diego hotels when planning to visit Ocean Beach, so finding the right area hotel to fit your budget and preferences shouldn’t be an issue. Most of the San Diego city hotels simply can’t offer the relaxed setting that the Ocean Beach hotels can, and if it’s a beach getaway that you have in mind, you’ll want to be as close to the sand as possible.

The Ocean Beach hotels are not numerous, so booking your room in advance when possible is always a good idea. Due to the fact that many San Diego visitors miss Ocean Beach, you should have luck finding accommodations upon arrival, but it never hurts to secure the room that you want before you arrive. While there aren’t any Ocean Beach resorts for those who are looking to enjoy the resort experience, but there are plenty of California beach resorts up and down the coast, and especially in the southern part of the state. The lack of Ocean Beach resorts has a lot to do with the low-key nature of the town. Most Ocean Beach visitors will tell you that it’s the authentic California beach town feel that they’re after anyways. It that regard, it doesn’t bother them that there are no Ocean Beach resorts to speak of.

If staying right on the beach is what you have in mind when it comes to the Ocean Beach hotels, then the Ocean Beach Hotel should prove to be a good fit. Recent renovations at the Ocean Beach Hotel were inspired by coastal villas in Italy, and the dazzling courtyard is a fine example of this. The hotel itself is not luxurious, but it isn’t basic either. Instead, it falls somewhere in between, so you can expect good rooms at a good price, which is music to many traveler’s ears. All of the rooms are clean and feature a decor that is tasteful enough. The amenities are somewhat limited, but you should find that you’ll have everything that you’ll need to enjoy a comfortable stay. Wi-Fi internet is offered at no extra charge, and other in-room amenities include cable TV, a fridge, a microwave, air conditioning, an alarm clock, a hair dryer, and an iron and ironing board. All the morning coffee that you can drink is included in the rates at the Ocean Beach Hotel, as is parking. Again, you won’t find much in the way of facilities at this laid-back lodging in Ocean Beach, but the beach is all that some visitors will need. Plenty of restaurants are within walking distance, so finding places to dine won’t be an issue.

Priced in the same affordable neighborhood as the Ocean Beach Hotel, the Ocean Villa Inn (pictured, left) is another excellent choice for those seeking lodging in Ocean Beach. Claiming to be the most dog-friendly hotel in the San Diego area, it’s a great pick for those who plan on traveling with their pooches. Dogs are also allowed at the Ocean Beach Hotel, so you can stay there as well if you are visiting with your K-9 friend. You’ll be steps from the beach when you stay at the Ocean Villa Inn, and Dog Beach is as close as could be, which is great news for those who are bringing dogs along with them. In addition to offering proximity to some great beaches, the Ocean Villa Inn also has you within easy reach of area attractions like the San Diego Zoo and Sea World. That’s what’s so great about the Ocean Beach hotels. You’re close to everything, yet seemingly worlds away at the same time! The 50 guest rooms here have also been recently renovated, and while the facilities are a bit limited, there is a nice heated outdoor pool to enjoy. A continental breakfast is included in the price of the room. Like the rooms at the Ocean Beach Hotel, those at the Ocean Villa Inn feature a microwave, a fridge, air conditioning, and cable TV. Private balconies with ocean views are standard throughout, and if you need extra space, you can book the larger Family Rooms, which also offer a wet bar and a full-size tub and shower unit.

The third hotel in Ocean Beach is actually found in Point Loma, though you’re so close to Ocean Beach that is could readily be thrown into the lodging mix. As is the trend with the Ocean Beach hotels, the Inn at Sunset Cliffs (pictured at top) recently underwent renovations, and the bright and cheery rooms offer a fair amount of luxury at a fair price. Families will likely prefer the two-bedroom suites, which feature kitchens, and there are also smaller units with kitchens available that will better suit couples. If you were thinking of staying at one of the Ocean Beach vacation rentals because of the fact that they provide kitchens, you might re-consider and book a stay here instead. You can save some money by booking a room without a kitchen if you don’t plan on cooking. Each room and suite at the Inn at Sunset Cliffs feature upscale linens, free morning coffee, internet access, and satellite TV. Once outside their comfortable rooms, guests can enjoy the outdoor heated pool, practice for an upcoming round of golf on the putting green, or head for the beach.
