Snow Summit Ski Area

The Snow Summit Ski Area is a popular resort located in California in the San Bernardino National Forest, near Big Bear Lake along Highway 18. It is a breathtakingly picturesque setting with Big Bear Lake, miles of trails, high reaching mountains, and runs that will knock your proverbial boots off. It is quite amazing when you consider that the Snow Summit Ski Resort is so close to the likes of Palm Springs and Los Angeles. When you are at the top of the mountain, covered in snow, getting ready to plunge down the 1,200-foot vertical drop, you will find it hard to believe that you are not far from the desert. Then again, the highest peak at the Snow Summit Ski Resort is well over 8,000 feet.
There are 240 skiable acres in sum at Snow Summit including 31 trails. The top elevation is 8,200 feet and this is not the easiest resort to ski. Only 10 percent of the runs are designated as beginner’s hills. Another 40 percent are considered intermediate, while the remaining 25 percent are for advanced skiers and snowboarders only. The longest run (Westridge) is 1.25 miles long.
The annual snowfall at Snow Summit Ski Resort is around 100 inches and the resort has the capability of covering 100 percent of the developed terrain with snow if necessary. Snow Summit Lodging is easy to secure, at either Snow Summit itself, or the sister resort, Big Bear Mountain. You will find that there are a range of options at your disposal, the Big Bear Lake Resort Association is more than happy to assist you in your decision making process. You will be able to choose from quaint bed and breakfasts, condos, and cabins.
