The Ventura County Fair is just one of the many fun events that help to make Southern California such a great travel destination. Held at the Ventura County Fairgrounds, this August celebration offers something for a wide variety of ages and interests. Included are a host of fun rides and a number of live music performances by big name acts.
Ventura County Fair History
The Ventura County Fair has long been a popular Southern California event. The first installment was held way back in 1875, with horse racing being the primary focus in the early days. Over the years, it has diversified to great extent, so you don’t have to be a horse racing enthusiast to have fun. For those who are most interested in the Ventura County Fair concerts, every year brings a big lineup. Among many notable artists and bands that have performed at the annual event are The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix, and Smokey Robinson.

A number of different events add considerable depth to the Ventura County Fair. In addition to concerts, there are motor sports contests, a parade, hay rides, fireworks displays, hypnotist shows, livestock displays, rodeos, and a variety of other things to indulge in. Of course, no good fair lacks food and beverage vendors, and being that this is California, you can expect the dining options to be quite diversified and tasty. California is a state that takes its dining seriously. Corn dogs, tacos, regional fruits, and delicious California wines are just some of the things that you can expect to enjoy at the Ventura Country Fair.
Ventura County Fairgrounds
The Ventura County Fairgrounds can be found on the beach in the Southern California city of Ventura. The drive up from Los Angeles takes about an hour. Seaside Park is the actual name of the area where the fairgrounds are held, and among other things, it is home to the Ventura Raceway and the Derby Club. The raceway is where the horses run, while the Derby Club is where the bets take place. The Derby Club hails itself as "The Premier Satellite Wagering Facility on the Central Coast," and this is difficult to argue. Visitors can bet on races across the country and as far away as Australia. At the Ventura County Fairgrounds, parking is limited when the fair is in full swing. For those who don’t want to deal with the hassle of driving to the fairgrounds and trying to find parking, there are free shuttle buses in Ventura that cater to Ventura County Fair patrons.
