When visiting all the different Connecticut Attractions, take some time to stop by the Mystic Seaport Connecticut. The Mystic Seaport Museum is the nation’s leading maritime museum, located on the shores of Mystic River in Mystic, Connecticut. Mystic Seaport has a collection of tall historic sailing ships and boats. They are famous for their recreation of an entire 19th century seaport.


The Mystic Seaport Museum was founded in 1929. Over 400,000 people visit Mystic Seaport every year. They are open year round except for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.


There is plenty to do at Mystic Seaport Connecticut. You can climb aboard numerous historic ships and vessels at the waterfront, take a stroll through the recreated 19th century seaport village, and watch workers restore antique boats using traditional methods and tools. There is also a variety of different exhibits and galleries to complete the museum feel. One notable exhibit is Mystic Seaport’s famous Voyages: Stories of America and the Sea exhibit. This exhibit takes up an entire three-floor building with art, video, audio and information to take you on a journey with sailors of past and present.


Besides the historical aspects of the Mystic Seaport Museum, there are other fun things to enjoy as well. You can learn about all the different stars and constellations at their planetarium. You will learn how seamen used the stars to help navigate the treacherous seas. On a nice day, visitors are welcome to stop by the boathouse to rent a boat and get on the waters themselves. There are even attractions for youngsters at the children’s museum, discovery barn, and playscape area. These offer fun sailor type activities that are sure to put a smile on your children’s face.


If you’re looking for places to eat at while visiting Mystic Seaport Connecticut, there are three distinct restaurants where you can surely find something you’d like. At Seamen’s Inn Restaurant and Pub, you can enjoy fine modern cuisine in a 19th century inspired dining room or pub setting. If you’re just looking for a quick place to grab lunch, you can stop by The Galley for a bowl of soup or chicken fingers in an informal restaurant. For some happy hour excitement, pay a visit to the Schaefer’s Spouter Tavern, located in the 19th century seaport village. You can get great lunch meals with a selection of soups, sandwiches and deserts. If you’re not hungry and just want a drink, the tavern even offers 19th century prices for mini-glass beers that cost only a nickel. However, make sure to plan your trip wisely as the tavern is only open in the warm summer months.


One of the cheaper Connecticut Attractions, Mystic Seaport will provide fun for the family for an entire day without breaking the bank.
