Cape Henlopen State Park beaches exemplify the genuine beauty of Delaware's coastal systems and there are more than 4,000 acres of natural history. Well-known as an excellent place for camping—one of the best of the many beach parks—-the Cape Henlopen camping area is near the charming town of Lewes, making a drive into town a fun day trip. The park is also north of Rehoboth Beach, offering another opportunity to further explore the area. The campground, close to the bay side Cape Henlopen State Park beaches, offers an ideal location for water recreation. Closest to the campground, the main beach at Cape Henlopen State Park is massive and offers abundant space, even during peak season.

History is a large part of Cape Henlopen, and Fort Miles illustrates the past of the park's ties with World War II. Fort Miles Historical Area was a defensive base utilized during the beginning of WWII. With the growing use of longer range missiles, the need for Fort Miles was executed and the more than 500 acres of land it encompassed was handed back to the state, creating the core of Cape Henlopen State Park. The fort is on the National Register of Historic Places and visiting is one of the top things to do.

Cycling, camping, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, swimming, hiking, and horseback riding are available to all park visitors enjoying Delaware vacations. Relaxing at a beach at Cape Henlopen State Park is top priority for many tourists. The park's wide range of activities indulge outdoor enthusiasts and nature lovers looking to get away from it all. The almost quarter mile pier that spans into the Delaware Bay is a popular spot for anglers. The Fishing Center, open from May through October, sells bait, tackle, angling gear, rentals, and more. Eight unique hiking trails create plenty of chance to explore the park in more depth. Trails include dunes, seaside paths, salt marsh trails, a bike loop, a pine lands trail, and a four-and-a-half mile beach trail for both hiking and horseback riding.

The beach at Cape Henlopen State Park is open to visitors throughout the entire year. Like many of the other state park beaches, Cape Henlopen State Park beaches are equipped with clean bathhouses with showers and change rooms. There is also a snack bar at the north beach at Cape Henlopen State Park and beach rentals available for a charge. Guests of the park can also rent bicycles which are an excellent way to get around during park tours and take a better look at the vast and fascinating area.
