Delaware camping is a great way to enjoy the state's wonderful outdoors. In the northern part of Delaware, the rolling hills of the picturesque Brandywine Valley present a very pleasing setting. The entire eastern edge of the state borders water, be it the Delaware River, the Delaware Bay, or the Atlantic Ocean. These regions are where most visitors to Delaware head, though exploring the rest of the state is surely worth the venture. There are no National Parks in Delaware , so many people looking to go camping in Delaware head to one of the State Parks. This small state has its fair share of them, and they are generally your best bet for places to find Delaware campgrounds. Since Delaware is so small, you can often mix in all its regions without spending too much time dealing with transportation issues, so you might try camping in the north for a few days, and then head to one of the Delaware campgrounds in the southeast to compare the experiences.

Delaware's largest city of Wilmington is found in the northern part of the state, not far from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Wilmington attractions range from historic buildings, to lovely and bucolic landscapes. You can escape the "big city" atmosphere of Wilmington by heading to one of its area parks, such as Rockford Park, which is where the interesting Rockford Tower is found. North of Wilmington, you might stop at the Brandywine Creek State Park to enjoy its Nature Center. The only problem is, some of these State Parks don't offer Delaware campgrounds. One northern Delaware State Park that does is Lums Pond State Park. If you like fishing, you'll find the state's biggest freshwater pond here, and there are ample hiking trails and sports facilities. You are not permitted to swim in the pond here, but there is a boat ramp and boat rentals. There are trails here for horse riding, and you will find the camping facilities to be quite sufficient. Lums Pond State Park is just a tad southwest of Wilmington, not far from the town of Bear.

Dover, the state's capital city, is a wonderful place to spend a few days at least, especially if you're in town for one of the two annual NASCAR events. Gaming action can be enjoyed just south of Dover at the Harrington Raceway and Casino, and if you are interested in finding nearby Delaware camp sites, you'll also find Killens Pond State Park to the south of the city. One of the park's major draws is its 66-acre millpond. Again, fishing and boating are popular things to do at this park, and the Nature Center offers guided hikes. As is true with most, if not all Delaware camp sites, you can camp year round here, and there are even some nice cabins you can rent. When it's hot out and you seek refreshment, the new Killens Pond Water Park should more than suffice. It is certainly a place that kids and adults alike can enjoy. One of the other popular Delaware camp sites found in the middle part of the state is at the G and R Recreation Area and Campground. You can stay in some pretty nice cabins here, complete with amenities like cable TV, a microwave, a bathroom and shower, and 2 double beds. For those who are enjoying Delaware camping with the idea of roughing it a little more, you can always pick a primitive site for tent camping. If you're touring about in an RV, you can feel free to bring it to the RV area at the G and R.

There is little use in arguing the fact that the Delaware beaches are largely responsible for bringing in tourists, especially during the summer months. There are gobs of Delaware camp sites in southern Delaware, many of which are found close to one of the more renowned beach towns. Just outside the town of Lewes, Cape Henlopen State Park offers one of the best Delaware campgrounds that you are going to find. There are wonderful camping facilities found here, not to mention some pretty outstanding beaches. The dune campsites are simply outstanding, and the hiking trails and fishing opportunities are just as worthy. The Seaside Nature Center is one of the park's best attractions, offering all kinds of recreational activities and educational endeavors. Delaware Seashore State Park is another one of the top southern Delaware camp sites. This park is surrounded by water, and there seems no end to the list of fun water-related activities that you can enjoy here. If you've never entered a sandcastle building contest, you might schedule your Delaware camping trip for here in July, when amateurs are free to compete in the Sandcastle Contest. If you've got a sandbox at home or a beach nearby, you can start practicing now for it. At the Delaware Seashore State Park, you can rent one of the new cottages at the Indian River Inlet Marina if you want to enjoy an array of creature comforts. Other campsites can be found in Delaware that might also be ideal for you. Delaware camping is a great way to bond with friends or family while enjoying all that the First State has to offer.
