sandy stretches are generally a bit different than the
kinds of beach resorts you might find in Mexico or Jamaica,

do in Delaware, and there are resort properties that
allow you to plan one or the other, though you’ll
find it hard to find one that specifically revolves around
either. Visitors to Delaware who like to mix activities
into their itineraries will likely prefer staying at one
of the Delaware resorts that offers an array of things
to do. At the Delaware beach resorts, this usually means
having the option to enjoy plenty of watersports activities.
As mentioned, the most popular resorts in Delaware are found on the coast. More specifically, these resort towns are found on the state’s southeastern Atlantic Coast. From Lewes on down to Fenwick Island, the Delaware beach resorts offer an array of experiences. If you like shopping, Rehoboth Beach might be where you choose to visit. Perhaps you like history. If that is the case, then the beach resort town of Lewes will probably be where you should head. This is also true if you want to enjoy some fishing, as there are an array of charter boats in Lewes. A few state parks can be found by the Delaware beach resorts, and they are wonderful for nature lovers and those looking to escape the crowds in the summer. When talking about the Delaware beach resorts that are of the specific hotel variety, some of the area bed and breakfasts will be your best bet, as Delaware beach resort properties are limited. The Addy Sea is an inn in the Delaware resort town of Bethany Beach, and it’s more of a bed and breakfast than it is a true resort. But, since you can arrange fun activities here, like kayaking, birding and fishing, it sometimes gets mention among the Delaware resort properties. This is also true of Delaware beachtown B&B’s like the Blue Heron Inn in Lewes. It’s found on 7 scenic acres that are full of woods and wetlands. One of the more enjoyable side activities at the Blue Heron Inn involves taking one of the hotel canoes out for a paddle.
The resort management companies found at the Delaware beach resort destinations can help you find the right accommodations if you should need. Probably the most distinguished of the Delaware resort properties is the Boardwalk Plaza Hotel in Rehoboth Beach. It’s hailed as the state’s only four-diamond beach resort property, so if true Delaware beach resorts are what you’re after, it’s probably your best bet. A fairly large hotel/resort, the Boardwalk Plaza is both elegant and cozy, often seeming more like a B&B than a resort. It’s right on the ocean, which is definitely a plus, and the rooms here are pretty deluxe. You can arrange a lot of different activities through this resort, such as sailing, shopping, sightseeing and bicycling. There are some pretty nice spas in Rehoboth Beach, and this hotel has one of them. Some resort communities can also be found at the Delaware beach resort towns.
Close to Bethany Beach, the Sea Colony Oceanfront resort
and the Sea Colony Tennis resort are both certainly worthy
of consideration. These Sea Colony resort communities
feature vacation rentals as accommodations, and guests
can enjoy community benefits. The Sea Colony resort community
might be the most complete of its kind in Delaware, and
if you want to hit the nearby Bear Dunes golf course,
you can arrange that through the resort’s concierge.
Unfortunately for golfers, there aren’t too many
golf resorts in Delaware. At Fenwick Island, the Bayside
Resort Golf Club is as close as you’ll get. Jack
Nicklaus designed the new course here, so you can bet
it’s about as good as can be. If finding Delaware
golf resorts doesn’t work out for you, you can always
look into Delaware golf packages. The famed luxury Hotel
DuPont in Wilmington offers
guests the chance the enjoy the nearby DuPont Championship
Golf Course, for example. Not only is the Hotel DuPont
the finest of all the Wilmington
hotels. It’s also generally considered the best
hotel in the entire state. More and more Delaware beach
resort communities like Sea Colony are being built or
planned, so the choices are always improving. As much
as there is a lack of Delaware golf resorts, there is
also a lack of hunting or fishing resorts. Thankfully,
you can arrange fishing excursions through one of the
Delaware vacation
resorts, such as the aforementioned Boardwalk Plaza Hotel
and the Sea Colony resort community. Just because the
number of resorts in Delaware is limited, that doesn’t
mean you can’t enjoy a resort experience. It just
may be a bit different than you are used to.
