Fenwick Island Delaware

Fenwick Island Delaware

For your next beach getaway, why not choose Fenwick Island Delaware? Dubbed as “Fisherman’s Paradise”, you can surely enjoy some great Delaware fishing here, not to mention miles of soft, white sand. Observing the picturesque dunes as you stroll on the beach is a nice way to spend some time on Fenwick Island, and you can always hop in the car or get on a bus to hit nearby Ocean City, Maryland. Just to the immediate north of Fenwick Island Delaware is the city of Rehoboth Beach. Together, these two beachtowns are often referred to as the “Quiet Resorts”. Generally, this moniker applies to the fact that the nightlife scene along this stretch is pretty limited. That being said, families will likely find Fenwick Island and Bethany Beach to be a better fit than some of the other beachtowns found in the area, as will those looking for a more relaxed vacation. You’ll find motels, hotels and vacation rentals at Fenwick Island Delaware, and as far as the dining scene goes, there’s pretty much something for everyone.

Fenwick Island basically rests on the Delaware/Maryland border, and it is here that you will find the renowned Fenwick Island Lighthouse. It is located more specifically on Route 54, just on the Transpeninsular Line. The Fenwick Island Lighthouse is one of the oldest you’ll find in Delaware, dating back to 1859, and it’s worth a visit for those planning Fenwick Island vacations. If you have the kids in tote, or are an adult who likes to keep in touch with his inner-child, you can pair a visit to the Fenwick Island Lighthouse with a stop at the Viking Golf Theme Park. Found inland, this amusement park/water park is open in the summer, and it’s surely fun to enjoy some time here during your Fenwick Island travel. Just outside of Fenwick Island, a bit to the north, is the Delaware Seashore State Park. Birdwatchers, couples, and just about anyone else will find the miles of beach dunes here a pleasant addition to the overall setting, and should you wake early, you might enjoy a stunning sunrise. When the sun goes down, the sunsets can actually be pretty amazing, which is good news for those who aren’t early risers.

Fenwick Island vacations can see you kicking back and relaxing one minute, and enjoying fun watersports the next. Should you be interested in doing a little surfing, you can find at least one full-service surf shop in town, and you can also try your hand at winsurfing, jet skiing, fishing and crabbing. Those planning Fenwick Island vacations might also consider a stop at the DiscoverSea Shipwreck Museum. It’s found on Route 1, and admission is free. The exhibits here center mainly around fine China, jewelry and coins. Like many Fenwick Island attractions, this museum is only open between Memorial Day and Labor Day. Summer is definitely the peak season for Fenwick Island travel, so you might want to book your Fenwick Island hotels or vacation rentals in advance. It’s also a good idea to call ahead if you are heading to a Fenwick Island restaurant during the peak season.

Worth noting is the fact that if you are renting a car, or driving your own to Fenwick Island in the summer, you’ll need to get a parking permit. These are sold between May 15 and Sept 15, and must be displayed on your vehicle between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. There are different parking permit options to consider, so you should find one that best suits your needs. Fenwick Island vacations have been popular for decades now, and there seems little reason to think that people will stop visiting here anytime soon. Plan yours today, and experience one of the best Delaware beaches.
