Newark Delaware is approximately equidistant from Philadelphia to the northeast and Baltimore to the southwest. It is situated in the northernmost part of Delaware, located near the borders of both Pennsylvania and Maryland. Newark DE is notable as being the home of the University of Delaware. It is a vibrant town of around 40,000 people that gets much of its vitality from the university. There are a variety of parks, museums, and ample opportunities for fine and casual dining, as well as shopping and a range of outdoor activities to enjoy.

Even though Philadelphia and Baltimore are both within less than 60 miles of Newark, this is a spacious and peaceful destination. There is abundant parkland in and around town, including some gorgeous state parks. Iron Hill Park is located just south of the main part of town and the Fair Hill Natural Resources Management Area is just to the west. White Clay Creek State Park and the White Clay Creek Preserve are two other places that are more than worth a visit. If you do make the trip you will want to bring your camera along, as this is some of the most beautiful land in the state of Delaware. If you are interested in mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and other such activities, you will also want to check out the Middle Run Valley Natural Area.

Once you have had your fill of outdoor action, you may be interested in exploring the cultural side of Newark Delaware. The University Museums feature an ever-changing mix of exhibitions and installments not to be missed if you are planning a visit to Newark. The Delaware Children’s Museum and the Delaware Museum of Natural History are also located less than twelve miles away in nearby Wilmington. The proximity to even larger cities like Philadelphia makes this a great place to enjoy a long weekend if you’re renting a car and exploring this part of the eastern seaboard.

Shopping is centered around Main Street. From Library Street to Deer Park you will find a great selection of bars, restaurants, independent shops and galleries, and some very cool coffee houses. This is a good starting point for any exploration of downtown Newark. You will get a sense for the culture of the town at the authentic restaurants and eclectic stores.

There are also a good number of hotels in Newark Delaware and yet more in outlying areas like Wilmington. You have the option of staying at one of the nice hotels with optional suites or a budget accommodation like a motel or campsite. There are plenty motels where you will not have to sacrifice comfort or cleanliness to get a good night’s rest. The state parks are utterly breathtaking and an awesome place to pitch a tent during the warmer seasons. No matter where you end up choosing to stay, you will be glad that you chose to visit Newark. It is an interesting little town that has a lot to offer its guests including a contagious, college town energy.
