Bushnell is the county seat of Florida’s Sumter County. Situated along Interstate 75 about an hour’s drive west of Orlando, the city offers proximity to an array of great central Florida attractions, including a number of lakes. To the north of town, Lake Panasoffkee and the affiliated Lake Panasoffkee Park offer opportunities to go fishing, hiking, hunting, horseback riding, biking, birdwatching, and camping. Another recreational destination in the area is the Chassahowitzka National Wildlife Area, which is a great place to go kayaking. Found on the fringes of this wildlife preserve and within the confines of the Withlacoochee State Forest is an additional area attraction worth noting – the Florida National Cemetery. Among the features at the cemetery is the Memorial Pathway, which is line with memorials of various kinds that honor American veterans. Other ideas for things to do during a visit to Bushnell Florida include taking a drive along the Scenic Sumter Heritage Byway, visiting the Dade Battlefield State Historic Site and seeing what’s for sale at the Sumter County Farmer’s Market.
