Clewiston Florida

Okeechobee in Hendry County, the city’s sugar industry explains its nickname. Sugar plantations sprung up around the lake decades ago, and Clewiston is the home of U.S. Sugar – the country’s largest processor of sugarcane. Sugar tours can be arranged for those who want to learn more about the world’s most prolific sweetener, and Clewiston even plays host to an annual Sugar Festival in March. Other reasons to visit Clewiston Florida include enjoying some recreation at Lake Okeechobee, which is one of the country’s largest fresh water lakes, and dropping by the Clewiston Inn. The inn is a Southern plantation-inspired hotel that dates back to the 1930s and has plenty of throwback Florida appeal. It is listed on the National Register of Historic places and can be a fun place to get some drinks, dine and perhaps stay overnight.
