The census-designated place of Homosassa calls Florida’s Citrus County home. That puts it along the Gulf Coast about an hour’s drive north of the general Tampa area, which includes Clearwater and some of the Sunshine State’s other top beach destinations. As for the Homosassa attractions, they include one of Florida’s best wildlife parks – Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park. Manatees can often be seen in this park. They are attracted by the springs and relatively warm area waters. Other features at Homosassa Springs Wildlife State Park include a famous hippo named Lu, who has appeared in numerous movies, and an underwater viewing platform which allows for great views of swimming manatees and fish. Several more area parks are also found in and around Homosassa. Yulee Sugar Mill State Park is an example. Among its features is an old sugar mill that was used to supply Civil War troops. Another sightseeing idea involves heading over to nearby Inverness to see the historic courthouse, which has a museum that primarily covers local history. The courthouse was used to shoot some of the scenes from the Elvis Presley movie, Follow That Dream.
