Legoland Florida

Legoland Florida, inspired by the favorite toy building blocks, brings the wonder of play to central Florida. Designed for kids age 2 to 12, the theme park encourages play and imagination. It’s sure delight visitors of any ages with a cool collection of creative rides and experiences. More than 50 million of the bricks were used to create Legoland Florida, which debuted in October 2011. The fifth Legoland in the world is located in Winter Haven Florida, on the site of the former Cypress Gardens theme park. It joins the other Legolands in London, Denmark, Germany, and Carlsbad, California.

All are part of the Merlin Entertainments Group, one of the biggest operators of amusement parks and aquariums in the world. Even before Cypress Gardens closed in 2009, the company began making plans for the first Legoland park in Florida and the whole Eastern U.S. While much has changed, the signature botanical gardens have been incorporated into Legoland Florida. The 150-acre park preserved many of the trees and lush landscapes from Cypress Gardens’ glory days. The park, too, is home to 50-plus rides and attractions spread over 10 fun zones. Nestled on the shores of Lake Eloise, Legoland is centrally located in Polk County, 45 minutes west of Orlando and 45 minutes from east of downtown Tampa.

Many theme parks specialize in heart-pounding rides and mind-bending coasters, but Legoland Florida was specially designed for young families. These “pink-knuckle” rides, as they’re called offer thrills, but stop short of being scary.

In the Lego Kingdoms zone, the Dragon Coaster zips and turns, offering a look at the magical Legoland coaster. This steel coaster is just a few minutes away from the wooden Coastersaurus that winds around a dinosaur made out of Lego bricks. Two more coasters have a home at Legoland Florida—Lego Technic Test Track Coaster and Flight School.

The youngest visitors will especially feel at home in Duplo Village, where they can play in a teeny town and check out the farm animals in the Duplo Barn, and visitors of all ages will get a kick out of the Imagination Zone, home to some amazing models made from Legos, of course, and the Lego Hero Factory and Kid Power Towers. Families can work together to get the top of a tower, where the views are just amazing, and take a free fall back to land. Head to the shores of Lake Eloise to discover the rides in Pirate’s Cove and the live show packed with some amazing water stunts.
