The family-oriented city of Marathon can make for a fantastic Florida Keys vacation destination. Commonly referred to as the heart of the Keys, Marathon is centrally located in the island chain and blends the appeal of a fishing village with that of a friendly tourist center and a peaceful nature preserve. Relatively highly developed in parts, Marathon has an infrastructure that includes a four-lane stretch of highway, a commercial airport, a marina, and resort hotels. It can get busy here, and there are plenty of waterside restaurants serving up fresh seafood for hungry travelers.
Marathon Florida covers several different small islands, or keys. Among the things that the city is best known for is its sport fishing. A number of charter boat operators depart from the marina every morning to ply the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean waters. Snorkelers and scuba divers can also find plenty of joy on Marathon vacations, thanks to the area reefs. Other Marathon attractions include the famous Seven Mile Bridge, which has appeared in numerous television shows and movies, and the educational Crane Point Museum, Nature Center & Historic Site.
