Fisher Island Florida

Fisher Island Florida is one of the most exclusive places in the United States. In fact, according to the 2010 census, this small barrier island off the South Florida coast had the highest per capita income of any place in the country. Named after the automotive parts pioneer and beach real estate developer, Carl G. Fisher, Fisher Island Florida was formerly a one-family island home of the Vanderbilts. Several other millionaires also made Fisher Island their home, which helps to explain the island’s stately mansions.

These days, Fisher Island Florida is no longer a one-family island, though it still retains its relatively isolated nature. Generally speaking, it is somewhat inaccessible to the public and remains an enclave for the rich and famous. The only ways to get to the island include taking a private boat or ferry. In addition to mansions, Fisher Island features a luxury hotel with a golf course, several apartment buildings, an observatory, and a private marina. Among the notable celebrities who have homes on the island are Oprah Winfrey, Mel Brooks, and Boris Becker. It should be noted that Fisher Island is a census-designated place of metropolitan Miami and that a small, uninhabited portion of the island is incorporated as a part of the city of Miami Beach.

Should the budget allow, Fisher Island Florida can be a great place to escape from the everyday routine. As far as finding accommodations is concerned, visitors to the island can hope to book a guesthouse suite, a villa, or a cottage at the luxurious Fisher Island Club. In addition to a golf course, the Fisher Island Club Hotel also offers such delights as a spa, tennis courts, and a wonderful beach. Also available for Fisher Island visitors are a number of rental properties. The majority of the rentals on Fisher Island come in the form of apartments and condos. Some homes are also available for rent for those who want extra space or privacy. As is true of the accommodations at the Fisher Island Club Hotel, the island’s vacation rentals are quite luxurious and command high rental fees.
