For visitors to Miami, Lummus Park Beach is one of the most popular and busy beaches in the South Beach area. Also known as Glitter Beach, Lummus Beach Miami is a prime location for photo shoots, and it is not unusual to find camera crews and models busy at work. Lummus Park Beach has lifeguards on duty and provides umbrella and beach chair rentals.
One of the best features of the beach is the sandbar that is just a few feet offshore. The water is so shallow that sunbathers use it as a refreshing spot to soak up the sunshine while staying cool.
One thing to keep in mind about Lummus Beach Miami is that topless sunbathing is allowed. It's restricted to the beach only and does not include the park area, but it's something to keep in mind if you're on a Miami vacation with family and are planning to take the kids to the beach. If this is something that might bother you, you might consider visiting one of the other Miami beaches, such as Hobie Beach or Virginia Key Beach instead.
Adjacent to the beach is Lummus Park. Filled with palm trees and benches, you will also find a promenade for jogging, rollerblading, or biking. A variety of vendors frequents the park selling food, including snacks and ice cream, and various beach accessories.
Across Ocean Drive, there are many cafes and restaurants along with metered parking, and restrooms and showers are available within the park. Lummus Park is one of the few residential districts remaining in the downtown area.
