The Miami skyline is one of the largest in the United States. It is also one of the most picturesque because of its choice position on the Atlantic coast of southeastern Florida. Miami has one of the largest urbanized areas in the US, along with New York City, Chicago, and Los Angeles, and the formidable skyline reflects its prominence among the progressive cities in the South. The city already has approximately 30 skyscrapers that exceed 500 feet and is undergoing what has been dubbed a “Manhattanization” process, one that has seen nearly 60 proposed structures of 500 feet or more brought to the table. Miami skyline photos reflect the modern look and progressive architecture of this city where only four of the 25 tallest buildings were constructed prior to 2000.
In terms of size, the Miami skyline ranks first in the southeastern US and third in the country overall, after only New York and Chicago. Because of the continual and rapid expansion of the city’s downtown core which includes the aforementioned proposed skyscrapers, the Miami skyline will soon rank among the largest in the world.
The most eagerly anticipated proposed project for the skyline is the mega skyscraper, Miapolis. When completed, Miapolis would stand at an incredible 3,200 feet and feature 160 floors, easily surpassing Burj Khalifa in Dubai as the tallest building in the world. Miapolis would feature condominiums, a hotel, a marina, restaurants, a shopping mall, and even an amusement park. It would be located on Watson Island, which also happens to be an excellent location to get brilliant Miami skyline photos.
The tallest building in the Miami skyline is the Four Seasons Hotel and Tower. It is a 70-story skyscraper that reaches 789 feet. It is the tallest building in the state of Florida and ranks in the top 200 buildings in the world with respect to height. The second-tallest building on the list is the 764-foot Wachovia Financial Center. Some of the other most notable skyscrapers in Miami include the Marquis Miami, 900 Biscayne Bay, the Wells Fargo Center, and Mint at Riverfront.
There are a good number of places to take awesome photos of the city and skyline, and generally, just appreciate the beauty of this vibrant coastal area. One thing you may consider is taking a cruise through the Port of Miami, where you will see the Miami skyline, Miami Beach, South Pointe, and more. A cruise through Biscayne Bay at sunset will also afford wonderful opportunities for Miami skyline photos, as well as gorgeous photos of the sunset and the glowing city in the distance.
