Ocean Drive South Beach
Ocean Drive South Beach exudes glamour and sophistication with its high-end retail spaces, posh restaurants, and pretty, palm-lined sidewalks. Beginning past the north end of oceanfront Lummus Park and ending at South Pointe Road (butting into Pier Park), Ocean Drive is filled with things to see and do.
Anyone interested in the Art Deco movement will enjoy an overnight stay in one of Ocean Drive’s renowned Art Deco hotels—Ocean Drive sits at the heart of the Miami Art Deco District where almost 1,000 beautifully preserved Art Deco style buildings are located. Most are white and square with the clean lines and pale accents typical of the style. For those who love world-renowned designer Versace, or even just the name association, the massive Versace estate is also on Ocean Drive and remains one of the most photographed mansions in North America.
Those familiar with Ocean Drive maintain the area is most beautiful at sunrise and so a reputation was slowly developed. Rivaling Key West, the pastel buildings seem to glow in the morning light. If possible, indulge and reserve a room as high up as possible to languish in a famous Ocean Drive morning or two. Some hotels feature rooftop pools with expansive sundecks ideal for bathing in the sunrise.
With a range of hotels, from luxurious to simple and convenient, Ocean Drive Miami Beach presents something for every budget. If you crave a distant taste of celebrity, the Cardozo Hotel at Ocean Drive and 13th belongs partially to Gloria Estefan, who played a hand at reviving the area from its 1970's and 1980's slump. There are romance suites, family suites with fully equipped kitchens, and party hotels, such as those across the street from famous party spot The Clevelander. The quieter areas of the hip and happening avenue are between 12th Street and 15th Street and South of Fifth a.k.a. the SoFi District. Though many hotels offer beachfront accommodations, there are none to be had between 5th Street and 14th where most front a verdant oceanfront park with views of the Atlantic.
