Panama City Airport

The Panama City Airport, officially known as the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, opened to commercial flight service in 2010. A replacement for the old Panama City-Bay County International Airport, it is now the airport of choice for Panama City Beach visitors.

The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport is one of the most recent international airports to be opened in the U.S. The "international" designation is a little misleading, however, as it isn’t anticipated that international flights to Panama City Beach will be available anytime soon.

The Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport, as its name implies, is a gateway to Florida’s northwest region. This region is blessed with beautiful beaches, the best of which include those along the Panama City Beach coast. At least two major airlines offer flights to the Panama City Airport, and more often than not, the planes are smaller-sized jets. You might liken the flights to commuter flights, and they arrive from the cities of Cincinnati, Memphis, Nashville, Atlanta, Houston and Orlando. Anyone wishing to fly to the Panama City Airport can also look to hop on a flight that takes off from Maryland’s Baltimore Washington International Airport. Those who don’t live within easy reach of these cities or the Baltimore airport must make a connection.

The Panama City Airport is only some fifteen miles north of Panama City Beach. This means that air travelers don’t have to go far to get to their hotel or vacation rental after the plane touches down on the airport’s 10,000-foot-long runway. As far as the ground transportation options are concerned, a number of well-known rental car agencies have a presence at the airport. Shuttle and taxi service can also be arranged onsite with relative ease, and several area transportation companies offer limo service.

Parking is available at the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport for those who need it. The long-term lots and the short-term lots allow free parking for up to ten minutes, and the costs for parking for a longer period are reasonable. All parking facilities are monitored around the clock by the airport’s police department.

Anyone wishing to fly to the Panama City Airport should know that flights tend to be more expensive during the peak spring and summer seasons. During these prime tourist seasons, flights to Panama City Beach also tend to sell out more quickly than they otherwise would in the off-season. Regardless of the time of year, it can help to keep an eye out for deals. Some of the best deals come in the form of vacation packages that include other things, such as a car rental and a hotel room.
