South Florida Beaches

The beaches in South Florida are known worldwide for their picture-perfect settings. The best South Florida beaches can be found along the coast from Palm Beach all the way to Key Biscayne. These beaches are filled with sunbathers and swimmers, photographers, and couples holding Florida beach weddings.

Key Biscayne is considered to one of the areas in Florida that contains some of the best South Florida beaches. Located just south of Miami, Key Biscayne is a barrier island that contains three outstanding beaches. The most noteworthy beach is Crandon Park, which is a public beach park that is maintained by Miami-Dade County. The beach is very family-oriented with several picnicking areas and plenty of room for throwing around a Frisbee. Like most beaches in South Florida, Crandon Park gets a bit crowded on the weekends, although it isn't as commercialized as South Beach or Cocoa Beach.

If you ask a beach enthusiast for a list of the best South Florida beaches, the majority will list South Beach, or SoBe for short, near the top of the list. Out of all South Florida beaches, South Beach remains a favorite for vacationers for a number of reasons. First, the area is constantly hosting events, parades, and festivals with live entertainment and delicious food. Second, the beach offers the ideal sand for playing a game of volleyball or building a sand castle. Although the beach gets extremely crowded on busy winter weekends, it is well maintained and is large enough to accommodate crowds.

North Shore Park, located just north of Miami Beach, is one of the most family friendly beaches in South Florida. The rarely crowded beach features fitness trails, playgrounds, a wide handicapped accessible walkway, and picnic tables. With so many things to do at the beach besides swimming and sunbathing, North Shore Park is popular with active people young and old.

Another one of South Florida beaches worth visiting is Hollywood Beach. The atmosphere of beach is extremely lively, with events going on nearly every day. If you don't like commercialized beaches, it's best to avoid Hallandale. A large commercial shopping and entertainment complex sits right next to the swimming area. The complex may be a nuisance to beach goers that are against the development of beaches in South Florida, but offers a good mix of restaurants and shops. Despite the amount of visitors Hallandale beach receives on a daily basis, the beach is quite clean.

One of the most well known South Florida beaches is Dania Beach. The beach is popular with residents and tourists because of its clean water and sand. The growing area is scattered with construction projects and new retail shopping complexes.
