You can't miss Tropicana Field in St Petersburg, thanks to its unique slanted roof. The design of the roof actually helps to protect the stadium in the event of a hurricane, and it also helps to reduce cooling costs. It's usually pretty warm outside in the Tampa region, especially in the summer months, which is why the area beaches are so popular. You'll know when the Rays win a home game, as the roof is lit in an orange color. The Rays games are the most popular of the Tropicana Field events, as the stadium is primarily a baseball venue. Should you be planning a St Petersburg family vacation, Sundays are Family Fun Days. You'll get a free hot dog, soda, and snack with your ticket purchase on Family Fun Days, and if you have younger kids, you'll want to visit the Rotunda. There you will find a clown, various mascots, and even a face painter.

You don't have to attend a Sunday game at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg if you're interested in family fun. There are two sit-down restaurants at the ballpark, not to mention various snack and drink options, and the onsite museum holds plenty of interest. The Hitters Hall of Fame, which is also known as the Ted Williams Museum, focuses mostly on Ted Williams himself. Some of the artifacts and exhibits at the museum also reflect other baseball greats, such as Joe DiMaggio and Willie Mays. After you visit the Hitters Hall of Fame, you might wander out to right field to check out the cownose rays. Tropicana Field in St Petersburg features a large tank full of live cownose rays just behind the wall in right center field, and fans can feed and touch them, even while the game is going on. The Rays Tank is overseen by the Florida Aquarium, which is based in Tampa.

Helping to make Tropicana Field a family friendly venue are the onsite interactive areas. These interactive areas offer something for kids of all ages. Among the things that you can do in the interactive areas is try your hand at play-by-play broadcasting, get your name carved into a Louisville Slugger bat, have your picture put on a baseball card, or play some video games. Adults who are attending one of the Tropicana Field events might wander over to the Centerfield Street area at some point. There you will find a cigar bar and a restaurant, both of which offer views of the action on the field. Two other bars can also be found in the Centerfield Street part of Tropicana Field, as can the Rays Team Store if you want to pick up some team merchandise. The Right Field Street area is also worth visiting if you want to enjoy some fun on the side. It boasts carnival games for kids, a speed pitch exhibit, and a batting cage, among other things.

The overall fan experience at Tropicana Field in St Petersburg is a good one, especially if you want to do more than just watch a baseball game. The newer video boards will help you stay on top of the game, and they even display things like pitch speeds and pitch counts, which is music to the ears of serious baseball fans. There are some good hotels near Tropicana Field if you are looking to stay close by, and they include the Hilton St Petersburg Bayfront and the even closer Shirley Ann Hotel. Most of the hotels near Tropicana Field are west of the stadium in the downtown core.
