Atlanta Airport has been ranked the busiest in the world since 1999, both in terms of the number of take-offs and landings and volume of passenger traffic. The official name is Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport although it is most commonly just referred to as Atlanta Airport. Atlanta is one of the leading cities in the south for business and the volume of air traffic that comes through the Atlanta Airport terminals reflects this fact. The airport serves nearly 90 million passengers every year. It is the main hub of big airlines such as Delta and AirTran, and features over 150 domestic gates and 28 international gates. The airport is located approximately seven miles south of the central business district of Atlanta.

Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport carries tourists and business travelers to a range of destinations around the globe, including South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. It is ranked seventh in the world as a gateway for international travelers into the United States. Not only is it completely suited out with a wide range of amenities and technologically advanced accommodations like the Automated People Mover which moves through the Transportation Mall, but it is also laid out in such a way that makes parking and renting cars a relative breeze. Never has Atlanta Airport parking been as easy as it is today. The airport recently added the impressive Hartsfield-Jackson Rental Car Center and several expansions to the overall Atlanta Airport parking situation. The Rental Car Center opened in late 2009 and two four-story parking structures that comprise over 2.8 million square feet. The ATL Skytrain to the parking area and it is easy to get to any part of the city using the MARTA train station, which is also connected to the airport.

Shuttles run back and forth from Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport about every twenty minutes. Many of the best Atlanta airport hotels offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport. You should definitely do your best to make your transportation arrangements in advance of arriving at the airport. This is not because it is terribly difficult to rent a car or find your hotel’s shuttle at the airport, but rather because it will guarantee availability and ensure that you will not be gouged on rates for renting a vehicle the day of.

Besides convenient Atlanta Airport parking, information services, and rental car areas, there are also a wide variety of shops, restaurants, bars and lounges, and much more. Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is different than many other hubs in that you can see sculptures and art as you move through the Transportation Mall. You will also notice the array of restaurants and stores is quite a bit more than what you are normally used to seeing at the majority of airports.

Information services, rental car desks, and baggage claim can all be found on the ground level of the main terminal. Once you have your plans firmed up you can move along with making arrangements for the rest of your time in Atlanta. It is an exciting and vibrant city with virtually unlimited options for things to do and see.
