Atlanta Opera

Atlanta Opera main stage productions take place four times every season beginning in October, and are an excellent thing to do in Atlanta. These professional Atlanta Opera performances take place at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, also home to the Atlanta Ballet. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre opened on September 15, 2007, and cost $145 million to construct. It is an impressive structure architecturally that features an asymmetrical roof that winds upward. The interior provides the perfect ambiance for Broadway troupes and other professional performers, with broad murals, 600-pound glass and gold chandeliers, and a stunning grand ballroom. The venue is located northwest of Atlanta in the Cumberland/Galleria area. The main theater seats 2,750 people and was named for John A. Williams, a private donor to the project.

Whether you are heading to the Cobb Centre for one of the Atlanta Ballet shows or an opera, you are sure to have a memorable time. The Atlanta Opera puts on internationally renowned performances such as Porgy and Bess and La Boheme. You can be sure that you will be entertained by only the most talented individuals when you see one of the Atlanta Opera performances. A great deal of time and preparation goes into putting on each of these productions, especially when there are only three or four held every season. Normally there are five or six Atlanta Opera performances of each show. They are spaced out with several months in between each new production.

You can purchase tickets for individual shows or subscribe to the Atlanta Opera and realize season savings of up to 25 percent on tickets. Also, when you are a subscriber, you can enter your tickets into an exchange that will allow you to sell or exchange tickets you are not planning to use, or get more tickets for a performance you especially want to see or take other people to. The same holds true for the Atlanta Ballet.

The Atlanta Ballet is the oldest professional dance company in the United States. It was founded in 1929. Today, visitors are able not only to see awesome Atlanta Opera performances, but also Atlanta Ballet productions of riveting shows along the lines of Moulin Rouge. The entertainment is suitable for adults and children and there are plenty of hotels, restaurants, and bars nearby. If you are planning a trip to Atlanta around one of the regularly held performances at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, you will be able to enjoy all of the area attractions as well. Head into Midtown for high-end designer shopping or take the entire family to Zoo Atlanta or the Georgia Aquarium. Atlanta is a city that offers so many things to do and so many alluring attractions that it can sometimes be difficult to fit it all in. A great place to start is a performance by either the Atlanta Opera or Atlanta Ballet at the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre.
