Atlanta Zoo

The Atlanta zoo, officially named Zoo Atlanta, is located in the city of Atlanta Georgia. With more than 40 acres of space, this is one of the largest zoos in the south and attracts more than on million visitors a year. The original zoo was built in 1889, when George Hall brought a traveling circus to town and stayed. The animal collection was eventually purchased by a business man in Atlanta, who donated the animals to the city in order to create the first Atlanta zoo. Today, visitors can see a much more extensive collection of animals at the Atlanta zoo.

Although there are hundreds of animals to see at the zoo, the most popular attraction right now is by far the Atlanta Zoo pandas. The Atlanta zoo pandas are housed in the Asian Forest, and go by the names of Lun Lun and Yang Yang. The Atlanta zoo pandas are giant pandas, put together in hopes of breeding this endangered species. Visitors to the zoo have come to love the animals, and if you want to see them in all of their glory, try and plan your trip to Asian Forest in the afternoon. For the most part, the pandas are most active in the afternoon and tend to put on quite a show of running, playing and eating. In addition to the pandas, the zoo is home to a number of other endangered species, including Komodo monitors, African dwarf crocodiles, black rhinos, gorillas and Sumatran orangutans.

There is more than one way to tackle this large zoo, and maps are available at the ticket booth to help you plan your route. Atlanta zoo discounts are available through a few different channels. Discount tickets to the Atlanta zoo can be obtained by becoming a zoo member, which is generally a good idea if you are a local and plan to visit the zoo multiple times in one year. If you are from out of town, but are a member of your local zoo, you might check to see if your membership is honored at the Atlanta zoo, as some are.

Atlanta zoo discounts can also be obtained by purchasing the Atlanta CityPass. Atlanta zoo discount tickets can be found in the CityPass booklet, alongside tickets to the Georgia Aquarium, the World of Coca-Cola, the High Museum of Art, and the CNN Atlanta Studio. For one price, discount tickets to zoo Atlanta are available in the booklet along with tickets to the other attractions. These discount tickets to zoo Atlanta are valid for nine days. The booklet is a good idea for anyone planning to spend a week or more in Atlanta, who wants to see some of the most popular attractions in the city throughout their vacation.

The zoo is open every day of the year except Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day, from 9:30am until 5:30pm. The ticket booth closes at 4:30 pm, and the popular Marta rail and bus system stops right in front of the zoo.
