The Georgia Aquarium is the largest aquarium of its kind in the world with more than 8 million gallons of marine and fresh water, inhabited by more than 100,000 animals of 500 different species. This staggering number includes whale sharks, beluga whales, loggerhead sea turtles, sawfish, seahorses, sea stars, anemones, bowmouth guitarfish, cuttlefish and so much more. There are five different galleries which house the fish. Each gallery corresponds to a specific environment, and all of the galleries and designed for optimal viewing capabilities for visitors. The Ocean Voyager exhibit tunnel, for example, is an overhead tunnel, where visitors actually walk beneath the enormous water tank. Fish, seemingly to fly, swim overhead as the entire aquarium is bathed in an eerie, watery light. Although this is only one of the five galleries, all of the galleries are equally impressive, and give tourists a chance to see the fish in ways they may never see them in again.
Georgia Aquarium tickets can be purchased online in advance, or in person at the Georgia Aquarium ticket booth. Because this is by far one of the most popular places to visit in Atlanta, it is a good idea to plan your trip to the Aquarium during the week if at all possible. The museum is incredibly crowded on the weekends, and during the week travelers will have a better chance to see more of the Aquarium with fewer people milling about.
