Peidmont Park

Peidmont Park

Piedmont Park in Atlanta is the city’s most popular park.  Today, Piedmont Park events and Piedmont Park concerts are some of the most popular things to do in Atlanta.  Piedmont Park in Atlanta was not always open to the public, however; the park was once a farm and Civil War encampment, and ownership has changed hands several times over the years.  No matter what brings you to Piedmont Park in Atlanta, you’ll like stay at for quite a while.

Piedmont Park events and Piedmont Park concerts are favorites among Atlanta locals.  With softball fields, soccer fields, public tennis courts, a public swimming pool, and paths for jogging, skating and cycling, it is easy to see why this is Atlanta’s favorite place to spend a Sunday afternoon.  The park is also located right next door to the Atlanta Botanical Gardens, which is another great stop on your tour of Atlanta.

Piedmont Park events include an array of shows, theatre events, and concerts.  If you happen to be in Atlanta during one of the many Piedmont Park concerts, you will likely notice that the park is literally filled to capacity.  Parking at such times at Piedmont Park in Atlanta can be impossibly hectic.  Many concert-goers and travelers hoping to forgo the hassle simply hop on the Marta bus system, which makes a stop right in front of Piedmont Park in Atlanta.

One popular way for locals to experience Piedmont Park in Atlanta is through a guided walking tour.  Put on by the city, walking tours are totally free and depart from the visitor center at noon on Saturdays between April and October.  The walking tours lasts for an hour and 1/2, and guides will point out all of the historic and otherwise noteworthy areas located within the park.

One such historical area is the site of the Cotton States and International Exposition of 1895, which was held in Piedmont Park.  Visitors from around the world came to the site, including President Grover Cleveland, who presided over the opening of the World’s Fair in October of 1895.  Although multiple granite buildings were constructed for the fair, the buildings were dismantled and sold to pay off the day incurred to the city by the fair.  Today, the site of the fair is mostly open grass, although it is an interesting site to visit.

Whether you come to Piedmont Park for a special event, a concert, or just to take a tour of the park, this is a lovely area of Atlanta and well worth a visit.
