Tours Day Trips Atlanta

Taking into account the size of the city of Atlanta, planning Atlanta tours may seem overwhelming.  Planning Atlanta day trips and day trips from Atlanta to surrounding cities can be a good way to break this city down into bite-sized chunks.  From hiking to shopping, Atlanta day trips can include a diverse range of activities.

Six Flags Over Georgia

One of the most popular day trips from Atlanta is a trip to Six Flags Over Georgia.  The park is only a fifteen minute drive from downtown Atlanta, and the theme park is full of enough rides to last an entire day.  During the summer, travelers can also head to the water park located right next door.  The American Adventures/Six Flags White Water Theme Park features water rides and additional amusement rides.  Although there are food venues located at the park, it is also permissible to bring along your own food for lunch.

Birmingham

Yet another of the more popular day trips from Atlanta is a drive to Birmingham.  The drive from Atlanta to Birmingham will take a little over two hours, and once there travelers will find an interesting array of museums for viewing.  In particular, the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute and the Birmingham Museum of Art are well worth a visit.

Underground Atlanta

Atlanta day trips through Underground Atlanta can be a great way to see the city.  By day, Underground Atlanta is full of great shopping, and travelers can organize their own Atlanta tours by following the historical markers that grace the streets of Underground.  By night, Atlanta tours of Underground Atlanta reveal a host of bars featuring live local acts and the chance to see some of Atlanta’s most colorful characters.

Centennial Olympic Park

Day trips in Atlanta to Centennial Olympic Park can be a great way to relax.  The enormous park has multiple monuments and artwork to enjoy, as well as a fun Olympic-themed fountain which is perfect for cooling off on those hot Atlanta summer days.  Across the street are the CNN studios, where travelers can take a tour of the studios and see how the news conglomerate works.  In the evening, head over to the Buckhead neighborhood for dinner.  Dining in Buckhead is and elegant experience, so be sure to make reservations in advance.

Zoo Atlanta

Today, spend time at the fascinating Zoo Atlanta.  This is the largest zoo in Georgia and one of the most diverse collections of animals in the south.  You can drive or take advantage of the Marta bus system, which makes a stop right in front of the zoo.  Your day trips in Atlanta can continue in the afternoon with a drive to the World of Coca Cola Museum, where travelers can see the history of Coca Cola as well as sample unique international Coca Cola beverages.

High Museum of Art

The High Museum of Art is one of Atlanta’s most famous attractions.  The porcelain-covered building houses more than 10,000 works of art permanently.  Day trips in Atlanta to the Museum can be followed up by a trip to the nearby Oakland Cemetery and the Kennesaw Civil War Museum.  If you have time, you can also check out the Kennesaw National Battlefield Park.
