Perhaps
the most interesting sites in the area is the Mokuai Church,
the oldest church in Hawaii and built of lava stone and
mortar made of crushed coral. With a New England-style
architecture, the church is the tallest man-made structure
in Kailua-Kona, with a 112-foot steeple. It's sometimes
known as the "church of the chimes," since chimes
sound each hour.
