Map of Kapolei
Kapolei is affectionately known as Oahu’s “second city.” Honolulu, of course, is the main city on the island and in all of Hawaii. Resting on land that was primarily used in the past for growing sugarcane and pineapples, Kapolei was master-planned starting in the 1950s and has been growing steadily itself into quite the urban center. The location of Kapolei is in the southwest region of Oahu less than 10 miles west of Pearl Harbor. Neighboring communities include Makakilo and Kalaeloa, and it isn’t very far off to the west coast Oahu resort destination of Ko Olina.
The Kapolei area offers plenty for Hawaii visitors to enjoy. Golf and time on the beach are some of the main draws at the nearby Ko Olina Resort. Other beach areas close to the city include White Plains Beach and the Oneula Beach Park. In Kapolei proper, the Wet’n’Wild water park is a top Oahu attraction for families. Oahu is easy enough to get around, so anyone who is staying in the Kapolei area can also consider venturing over to Honolulu and Waikiki Beach for the day. Or maybe a trip to the scenic surfing mecca that is the North Shore will be in order. The options for things to do are many and can quickly fill your Oahu vacation agenda.
