Kalapaki Beach

Lying on the south eastern coastline of Kauai, Kalapaki Beach is renowned for its ideal swimming conditions, terrific sailing opportunities and long, golden stretch of sand. The harbor is popular among families where volleyball games, sunbathing and building sandcastles are just some of the fun things to do. Kalapaki Beach Kauai is also home to the acclaimed Kauai Marriot Resort and Beach Club with adjacent Kauai golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Ravines, steep bluffs, ocean holes and impressive landscaping create spectacular views on both courses. There are a number of Kalapaki villas and other Kauai vacation rentals to choose from if you want to explore the area further or just stay and unwind.

Kalapaki Beach sweeps in a moon shaped curve that opens up to Nawilwili Bay and the Hoary Head Mountains. The mountain's highest pinnacle is more then 2,000 feet above the ocean, called Ha'upu Peak, and creates an additionally pleasing backdrop from the beach. For those who aren't satisfied with just swimming and relaxing there are plenty of adventurous activities to do. Visitors can try surfing lessons, take Kauai tours on catamarans or kayaks for a closer look at the area, or rent sailboats for a fun morning or afternoon cruise.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the beach area is the 40 acres of freshwater bayous that act as a natural haven for abundant wildlife. The rocky walls that shape the lagoon are closely fit stones established by the Menehune long ago. From the Kalapaki Beach harbor you can take a kayak upstream to the fishpond on a fun jungle cruise. You'll sail passed dense tropical vegetation that reaches out to the water providing opportunities to see native wildlife. The marshy spots that flank the stream are home to Hawaiian birds such as stilts, Koloa ducks and coots. You may recognize a part of the lagoon as a clip from Indiana Jones was filmed here.
