Kalapaki Beach

Kalapaki Beach
Kalapaki Beach | Poipu Beach | Tunnels Beach

Lying on the south eastern coastline of Kauai, Kalapaki Beach is renowned for its ideal swimming conditions, terrific sailing opportunities and long, golden stretch of sand. The harbor is popular among families where volleyball games, sunbathing and building sandcastles are just  some of the fun things to do. Kalapaki Beach Kauai is also home to the acclaimed Kauai Marriot Resort and Beach Club with adjacent Kauai golf courses designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr. Ravines, steep bluffs, ocean holes and impressive landscaping create spectacular views on both courses. There are a number of Kalapaki villas and other Kauai vacation rentals to choose from if you want to explore the area further or just stay and unwind.

Kalapaki Beach sweeps in a moon shaped curve that opens up to Nawilwili Bay and the Hoary Head Mountains. The mountain’s highest pinnacle is more then 2,000 feet above the ocean, called Ha’upu Peak, and creates an additionally pleasing backdrop from the beach. For those who aren’t satisfied with just swimming and relaxing there are plenty of adventurous activities to do. Visitors can try surfing lessons, take Kauai tours on catamarans or kayaks for a closer look at the area, or rent sailboats for a fun morning or afternoon cruise.

The Kalapaki beach map also outlines a number of beachfront shops to peruse when you feel like getting out of the sun. There are a number of interesting goods to scout and local artisans whose work depicts traditional Hawaiian culture. There is also different cuisine to be try in the beachfront restaurants that dot the shoreline including Hawaiian, American and Oriental. For family picnics Nawilwili Park is perfect and only a short distance. There’s plenty of convenient parking at Kalapaki Beach Kauai with public facilities nearby at the Anchor Cove Shopping Center.

One of the most beautiful aspects of the beach area is the 40 acres of freshwater bayous that act as a natural haven for abundant wildlife. The rocky walls that shape the lagoon are closely fit stones established by the Menehune long ago. From the Kalapaki Beach harbor you can take a kayak upstream to the fishpond on a fun jungle cruise. You’ll sail passed dense tropical vegetation that reaches out to the water providing opportunities to see native wildlife. The marshy spots that flank the stream are home to Hawaiian birds such as stilts, Koloa ducks and coots. You may recognize a part of the lagoon as a clip from Indiana Jones was filmed here.

Kalapaki Beach is a genuinely beautiful area that’s at the top of the list for many visitors along with Poipu Beach and Tunnels Beach. Many people visiting Hawaii are enticed to rent out Kalapaki villas and stay for a while to enjoy all the area has to offer. A good choice for Kalapaki villas is The Banyan Harbor Resort, a two diamond AAA property on the Kalapaki Beach map located directly across the street.

Each of the villas have separate dining, living and sleeping areas complete with a fully equipped kitchen and all the appliances and tools you’ll need to prepare your own meals.

Onsite tennis courts, an outdoor pool, shuffleboard and barbeque grills are all available for guests. The Kalapaki villas are decorated pleasingly with a bright, tropical interior design, each with at least one full size bathroom featuring a spacious vanity and bathtub. They each also include a washer and dryer, television, DVD player and air conditioning. There’s also an outdoor lanai where you can relish in the beauty if famous Hawaiian sunsets.

There are almost ten Kauai beaches within ten miles of the villas and Wailua Falls is also nearby. For avid golfers there are numerous Kauai golf courses close to the resort all offering distinct features and sensational backdrops. The Lihue Airport is a short drive making transportation convenient. Kalapaki Beach visitors have access to the Lihue civic center and the Kalapaki area allowing further discovery of area history along with many celebrated cultural events and holidays, though the islands many natural wonders remain the top reason for a visit.
