Kapalua Hotels

Generally speaking, Kapalua hotels are high-class affairs—hotels where luxury comes standard. Kapalua is famous for its two championship-level golf courses (one inaugurates the start of the PGA Tour every year) and the pristine conditions of its beaches. As such, travelers looking to book a hotel in Kapalua tend to have golf, romance, or possibly a combination of the two in mind. So it comes as no surprise that Kapalua lodging caters wonderfully to golfers and honeymoon visitors alike. Accommodations in Kapalua are not exactly plentiful, but they make up in quality what they lack in quantity.

The Ritz Carlton Kapalua is probably the premier honeymoon spot in town. Each room is decked out with regal furniture and comes with a spacious lanai, or private balcony, from which to enjoy views of either the ocean or the surrounding gardens, as this hotel in Kapalua is set in the midst of a pineapple plantation. Of course, it also includes all the modern conveniences, so don’t be surprised to see a 37-inch flat screen TV and a handy iPod docking station perched on the authentic Hawaiian furniture.

Spending time at Kapalua hotels is all about relaxation, and the Ritz Carlton Kapalua offers an international standard spa where you can choose any one of a number of pampering programs. Movement and yoga classes are run in conjunction with the fitness center, which is itself a fantastically well-equipped facility, so you can really get in touch with your body while staying here.

A slightly different Kapalua lodging option is the Kapalua Villas, which is part of the magnificent and sprawling Kapalua Resort. The resort has two 18-hole golf courses, and daily life there typically revolves around them. Staying here, then, is a golfer's dream, and many of the villas literally form the edge of the fairways, meaning you can watch as others go for that all-important putt from the comfort of your own lanai. Other villas, meanwhile, look over the sea, which is as good an option, or perhaps better, depending on your interest in golf.

Aside from the golf, amenities typical of most Kapalua hotels are available at the Kapalua Villas, such as tennis, swimming, and a variety of water sports. The resort also has an affiliated Adventure Center; a Mountain Outpost where you can climb artificial walls or fly along miles of zip lines. All of these activities and excursions can be arranged from the manned activities desk at this hotel in Kapalua.

Kapalua lodging is well-served in terms of transport, as one of Maui’s airports, the Kapalua airport, is nearby. That being said, you still might need to arrange an airport shuttle service to whisk you to your room. Make sure to check whether it’s included in the room rate before jumping onboard. Alternatively, secure a car rental and take to the road in your own set of wheels on arrival. The latter option will also provide the added bonus of allowing you to see the many Maui attractions and experience the best things to do on your own schedule, without having to wait for public transit or tour coaches.
