Sandpoint Idaho

The city of Sandpoint Idaho is located in Bonner County. Sandpoint Idaho is a moderately sized city with an economy that depends almost exclusively on tourism. Thanks to its close location to Schweitzer Ski Resort and popular summer playground Lake Pend Oreille, Sandpoint Idaho is a popular place for travelers all year round. Sandpoint Idaho enjoys distinct season, with warm summers and cold winters, making it an ideal location for outdoor activities.

Historically, Sandpoint was the site of various encampments of the Flathead Indians of Montana. During the summer in particular, the Flathead Indians spent time in Sandpoint along the shores of Lake Pend Oreille. These Native Americans were forced to leave Sandpoint in the 1930’s. The city of Sandpoint also saw the arrival of Sandpoint Idaho trains with the construction of the Northern Pacific Railroad in 1880, and later in 1888 would-be president Theodore Roosevelt visited and wrote about Sandpoint while on a hunting trip.

Sandpoint Idaho fly fishing is yet another draw to the town. Sandpoint Idaho fly fishing has long been recognized as some of the best fishing in the world, with various types of salmon and trout being the main fish. Sandpoint Idaho fly fishing is even the subject of many vacations devoted wholly to fly fishing.

With so much to do in the city of Sandpoint, Sandpoint Idaho trains are a great way to get to the city. Sandpoint Idaho trains run via the Northern Pacific Railroad, with Amtrak trains being the prominent passenger trains in the area. Train routes from a number of cities across the nation are available, and the state of Idaho is one of the best places to take a train ride in regards to scenery. Throughout the Pacific Northwest and in southwestern Canada, riding the train can be a great way to leave the driving to someone else while you walk around the train, read, or just take in the views all around. Train rides in the Pacific Northwest are popular throughout the winter and summer months.

Whether you travel to Sandpoint for the outdoor sports, indoor fun of a vacation home or simply to check out this section of the state of Idaho, Sandpoint is a great place for Idaho tourism. Take the train or plan to drive to Sandpoint Idaho. Either way you will be within close proximity to great skiing, excellent water sports and plenty of other fun activities.
