Twin Falls Idaho

Twin Falls Idaho is the largest city within a 100-mile radius. As such, it serves as a regional commercial center of importance. Twin Falls Idaho is also a popular vacation destination, with outdoor activities serving as a major draw for tourists. One of the most popular places to go for recreation in the Twin Falls area is the Snake River Canyon. Even if you've never been to Twin Falls or Idaho in general, you may of heard of this canyon before. In 1974, Evel Knievel attempted to jump it in a steam-powered rocket, bringing worldwide attention to the area. He was unsuccessful and thankfully escaped with only minor injuries. Other natural attractions in the area include several waterfalls, including Twin Falls, from which the city takes its name.

The history of Twin Falls Idaho stretches back more than 10,000 years. Before the area was named Twin Falls by settlers in the early 19th century, it was inhabited by Native American tribes. In the year 1959, evidence of human presence, including arrowheads and other tools, were found at a site near the Wilson Butte Cave. Twin Falls as we know it today was settled in the early 1800's by Robert Stuart and other settlers from the American east coast.

Twin Falls enjoys a relatively good economy based in part around agriculture and attracts a healthy stream of tourists. Attractions in Twin Falls tend to equate to outdoor activities, including great fly fishing in the spring and summer, as well as excellent trails for hiking and mountain biking. In the winter, travelers are able to head to some of the great ski sites in Idaho, including Schweitzer to the north or Silver Mountain. Other ski resorts in Idaho include Sun Valley, Soldier Mountain and Tamarack Resort.

The downtown section of Twin Falls, known as the Olde Town, boasts a number of restaurants. At these Twin Falls restaurants, guests can sample a wide range of cuisines, including the rather robust cuisine of the Pacific Northwest. Salmon and other fish dishes are featured on local menus, and complementing the more unique dining establishments around town are a few well-known chain eateries. Blue Lakes Boulevard is a street in downtown Twin Falls that is heavily developed with commercial retail shops and restaurants and can be a good place to start when looking to explore the Twin Falls dining scene.

One of the best attractions in Twin Falls Idaho is Shoshone Falls, which is found along the Snake River. Not far from these stunning falls is Twin Falls, a pair of waterfalls from which the city has taken its name. Pillar Falls is also found in the more immediate area, and no discussion about Twin Falls Idaho would be complete without mentioning the Perrine Bridge. This truss arch four-lane bridge carries U.S. Highway 93 over the Snake River and is a popular BASE jumping site. The height of the Perrine Bridge over the river is nearly 500 feet. If you prefer sightseeing and hiking to BASE jumping, there is a visitor center at the bridge that offers spectacular views and easy access to an extensive trail system.
