The Greektown neighborhood of Chicago is popular among Windy City residents and tourists alike. Found on the Near West Side, the neighborhood mostly draws them in with its dining and nightlife opportunities. As you might imagine, Greek restaurants reign supreme in Greektown. The bulk of these restaurants, as well as the majority of the Greektown bars, are found along Halsted Street. Other Greektown attractions include a Hellenic cultural museum and the Taste of Greece festival, which takes place in late August.

Greektown is situated to the near west of Chicago’s downtown Loop district. A short cab ride across the south branch of the Chicago River is all that is required to make the transfer from the Loop to Greektown. Other ways to get to the neighborhood include driving over yourself or relying on public transportation. The Chicago subway system’s Blue Line has a UIC-Halsted station that can be found in the area. An alternative to the metro is the Halsted bus line. However you get to Chicago’s Greektown neighborhood, chances are good that you will be greeted by the smells of gyros, shish kabobs, moussaka, and other Greek food classics. In other words, prepare to get hungry if you aren’t already feeling peckish.

The Greektown restaurants are quite similar to one another, in that they are basically standard Greek restaurants with similar menus. To sum it up, they are pretty much all good bets. On warm summer nights, you might choose your Greektown restaurant according to its outdoor seating options as opposed to its menu. At least one of the neighborhood’s resident eateries has a large outdoor seating area. Another impresses with its rooftop patio. From such outdoor eating areas, you have the added advantage of relishing in wonderful Chicago skyline views while you dine.
