North Avenue Beach

North Avenue Beach Chicago is a must-see place to visit during any vacation to Chicago, and it's one of the area's most popular beaches. The beach and park area are located along Lake Shore Drive and is the center of activity for singles and families alike. The beach is a popular destination for residents and vacationers, and it is busy beginning around Memorial Day and through the summer until Labor Day.

North Avenue Beach is a large beach and a great place to people-watch. Along Lake Shore, skaters, joggers, rollerbladers, and cyclists keep the road and paths busy. If you feel like participating in a game of volleyball while visiting North Avenue Beach, equipment is available for rent, as are beach chairs and bicycles. North Avenue Beach Chicago also provides a small exercise and fitness center and roller hockey facility.

A main attraction of North Avenue Beach Chicago is the beach house. The original building had stood at the location since the Great Depression, and though it was a landmark, it was removed and replaced with a more structurally sound building containing concession stands, showers, restrooms, and a restaurant on the second floor serving light fare, such as burgers and wings. A lifeguard station at North Avenue Beach ensures a safe visit to the beach.

If you plan to visit North Avenue Beach and are taking your rental car, arrive early as parking is limited and fills up fast. Taking public transportation to the beach is easy, however, because of its convenient location close to Lincoln Park Zoo and other major attractions.
