Ohio Street Beach in Chicago is popular not only with families, but also for triathlete training. The athletes use the waters of Lake Michigan as a training area by swimming out and back in designated marked lanes.

Ohio Street Beach is smaller than Oak Street Beach and North Avenue Beach, and it fills up fast, especially in the morning when athletes are in training and visitors from nearby Navy Pier arrive for a day of fun. If you are planning to visit Ohio Street Beach, arrive early to secure a good spot on the sand. The beach is a hot spot for sunbathers during the summer months, though it is not as crowded during the off-season.

There are not many public restrooms or restaurants at Ohio Street Beach, but one is Caffé Oliva, which boasts both a private bathroom for restaurant customers as well as a public bathroom for beach goers. A water fountain and a refreshment stand are also available. During the summer, boating is popular on Lake Michigan and can cause strong wakes that make swimming more difficult, but there are lifeguards are on duty at the Ohio Street Beach in Chicago.
