Indiana Golf Courses

Indiana is brimming with magnificent golf courses in every corner of the state and throughout the vast interior. One of the most popular things to do in the state, golfing in Indiana has taken on a modern edge, with many courses designed and revitalized by world-renowned course architects and surrounded by luxurious and very well equipped golf facilities. Almost 500 golf courses in Indiana provide a wide range of layouts and designs built to suit many playing levels. Many Indiana golf courses are designed by some of the most well-known names in the sport including Robert Trent Jones, Donald Ross, and Pete Dye.

In the South-Central region of the state one of the must-play Indiana golf courses is classic Greensburg Country Club, in Greensburg northeast of Columbus. Designed and completed in 1925, this time-honored course is one of several Indiana courses carrying rich historic significance. Unyielding fairways and many beautiful mature trees create a picturesque backdrop to the rest of the course. The greens roll very true and are on the smaller side with fewer bunkers to tangle with than other courses. Only a 9-hole course to begin with, the other half of Greensburg was completed in 1970 and is noticeably larger than the first half.

Western Indiana offers three top courses that are a must for golfers on Indiana vacations. Just northeast of Lafayette in Monticello, Tippecanoe offers excellent challenges for those looking for great golfing in Indiana. This 18-hole facility was first built in 1920 as a tournament course that hosted many events in its time. Established well before the development of two area lakes, some of the holes at Tippecanoe now border Lake Shafer, offering a relaxed feel much like many Indiana resorts and inns. The summer months are quite busy as people flock into town to relax by the lake, so the most ideal time for golfing in Indiana here is in spring and autumn. Anticipate a characteristic Pete Dye set up, meaning fast and challenging play.

The north is home to some of the top Indiana skiing areas, along with a number of admirable golf courses in Indiana. Warren Golf Club at Notre Dame is located in South Bend , east of Michigan City. Famous designer Ben Crenshaw created this course along with Bill Coore, another notable designer. One of a few Indiana golf courses incorporated into scenic wetlands and the existing escarpment, Warren Golf Club offers surprising bunkers and challenging greens.

Avid golfers are amply accommodated through a number of terrific Indiana vacation packages that can include car rentals, accommodation, flights, and more. This can be a great way to book tee times in advance to avoid disappointment, receive discounts on club rentals and green fees and enjoy a variety of courses rather than the standard one or two. The sheer number of golf courses in Indiana make playing only one really difficult! The incredibly varied and distinct landscape throughout the state creates a wide choice of golf courses in Indiana that are unique and refreshing for enthusiastic golfers. Whether you’re a pro or an amateur, Indiana has the perfect golf course for every player.
