Ames Iowa

Ames is a small city located in central Iowa, about 30 miles north of the capital city of Des Moines. The city of Ames Iowa is home of the Iowa State University. This city has all of the entertainment attractions and events that are found in other college towns which brings travelers to the area throughout the year.

The first Friday in June is another of the Ames events that shows their flare for culture. ArtWalk is held on this first Friday, and is a day when downtown is filled with locals and visitors who come to enjoy food and music, and most importantly, the area businesses host local artists. This fantastic event is hosted by The Octagon Center for the Arts. This center teaches art and hosts events that are some of the biggest attractions in Ames Iowa. One such attraction is the Octagon Art Festival, which is held each September. This festival brings in many artists and art-lovers from miles around, and is one of the most popular attractions in Ames Iowa.

Other attractions in Ames Iowa are the outdoor activities. This city is home to over 30 public parks. Also, found throughout the city, is over fifty miles of walking and biking trails. For golf lovers, Ames is home to several Iowa golf courses. There are five golf courses in Ames Iowa, ranging in from 9- to 18-hole courses and varying in difficulty. Ames is also home of the Iowa Arboretum, which is another way to enjoy the outdoors. A short drive from Ames will take visitors to one of the wineries in Iowa, White Oak Vineyard. This vineyard offers daily wine tastings and live music every Friday night.

If sports are preferred, Ames Iowa travel can easily be filled with sporting events by the local Iowa State University's many sporting teams. This university has a team in all popular sporting leagues. There is almost always some sporting event going on in Ames through the university.

There are tons of things to do in Ames to keep visitors busy. The city is filled with outdoors opportunities, sporting events, and the Ames events are a great reason to visit this city.
