Hutchinson Kansas

The city of Hutchinson Kansas can be found in the south-central part of the state near the larger city of Wichita. Like the larger cities in Kansas, Hutchinson boasts downtown shops and art galleries, and they are always there to help you fill your time with fun things to do during your Hutchinson vacation. You definitely won't be lacking for things to do in Hutchinson Kansas, especially if you visit when the Kansas State Fair is in full swing. One of the top overall events in Kansas, the Kansas State Fair takes place in mid-April, and it's definitely an event that the whole family can enjoy. Whether or not your Hutchinson travel plans include the Kansas State Fair, there will be plenty to see and do on your Hutchinson visit, and side trips are encouraged if you are thinking of exploring the area.

When it comes to building your Hutchinson travel itinerary, the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center deserves consideration. It's arguably the top attraction in the city, and you'll find it near the state fairgrounds. Besides offering fantastic exhibits that focus on space exploration, the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center also offers camps that cater primarily to elementary, middle school, and high school students. In addition to checking out moon rocks and viewing rocket engines at the Space Center, those who are enjoying a Hutchinson vacation can head over to the Kansas Underground Salt Museum to learn all about the area's salt-processing history. Among the things on display here is an antique train, which served the needs of the Carey Evaporation Plant and Salt Mine between the years of 1928 and 1963. There are a bunch of neat museums in Kansas, and these two Hutchinson museums are surely worth some of your time.

In addition to offering some good museums, Kansas also offers some good zoos, and you'll find one of them in Hutchinson. Families with kids will definitely want to consider adding a trip to the zoo to their Hutchinson vacation itineraries, especially since admission is free! Some 160 animals call the Hutchinson Zoo home, and the zoo's animal rehab program treats some 500 animals a year. The Wild Habitats Building is just one of the main attractions at the zoo, and it houses flying squirrels, tiger salamanders, and diamond back rattlesnakes, among other fascinating creatures. If the Hutchinson Zoo is something that you're interested in visiting during your trip to Hutchinson Kansas, you might also like the Dillon Nature Center. Dedicated to all things nature, this center features a new Visitor's Center and some hiking trails that pass through prairies, gardens, a fishing pond, and more.

Keeping busy while engaging in Hutchinson travel shouldn't be hard, as there's not only a lot to see and do in town, but in the general area as well. Hitting one of the area golf courses or visiting one of the area state parks is always something to consider when the weather is nice, and you can always take a side trip to Wichita if you want to enjoy all the attractions that it has to offer. You might also fancy a few side trips to more northerly destinations, such as Salina and Abilene. Your visit to Hutchinson Kansas doesn't have to include side trips, but if you have a car and some time to work with, they are never a bad idea.
