The Mammoth Cave campground features 105 campsites near the Nolin River complete with a picnic table and a fire ring. Don’t expect anything fancy at the campground in terms of amenities. Although there are modern restroom facilities, there is no electricity. With the beautiful scenery and great Kentucky hiking trails, however, you won’t even miss it. Reservations are recommended if you plan to visit the Mammoth Park campground between May and September. These summer months are the most popular times for Kentucky tourism and are also ideal times to explore Kentucky caves.
Even if you do decide to visit Mammoth Park in the winter, rest assure that the climate usually stays nice and cool during the daytime. The nights can get down to a chilly 40 degrees Fahrenheit, so it is best to be prepared for any type of weather.
You can also stay at the Mammoth Cave Hotel on your Kentucky trip to the caves. This lodging option features Kentucky cabin rentals or more traditional rooms that can comfortably sleep 2-4 people. The Kentucky accommodation is located right at the entrance of Mammoth Cave National Park, so you won’t have far to go for a fun day of exploring.
Boating and kayaking on Kentucky rivers are relaxing ways to spend your time at Mammoth Cave National Park. The Green River and the Nolin River are stocked with all sorts of fish, from perch to blue gills. You can cross the rivers on two different ferries. Be sure to research restrictions on catching fish before going fishing at the state park.
