New Orleans Tours

New Orleans is geared for tourism, so finding day trips in New Orleans is not a problem.  Some New Orleans day trips take you in and around the city like the swamp and plantation tours, while other New Orleans tours remain in the garden district and around the historic sites of the French Quarter.  There are a few New Orleans day trips that you can take out of the city if you would like to rent a car.

New Orleans tours in and around the city are plentiful, as this city is geared to entertain the tourist.  New Orleans day trips can combine a city coach tour with a riverboat cruise or a ride on an airboat in the Honey Island Swamp tour.  Other New Orleans tours include the Cemetery tours, Oak Alley Plantation tour and Jazz Tours.  If you want to take day trips in New Orleans, you can find several operators that offer multiple itineraries.  You can also catch day trips in New Orleans like the Gray Line New Orleans tours, which include a Hurricane Katrina tour that shows the devastation and renovation of this incredible tragedy.

If you want to tour New Orleans by foot, there are several walking tours, which is one of the better ways to see the French Quarter and the Garden District.  You can also tour New Orleans dark side on the Cemetery Voodoo tour and the Haunted New Orleans tour.  For the food lovers, try the cocktail or culinary tours.  If you want to tour New Orleans in an unusual way, there are wine & cheese romantic airplane tours, horse draw carriage tours, and limousine tours.

If you are looking for New Orleans day trips for the kids, you can try the Mardi Gras world which has on display year round the magnificent floats and parade items.  There are large props, like jester masks and huge alligators.  It’s fun for the whole family.   There is also the Zoo, Aquarium and River cruise for kids and at night take the ghost or vampire walking tours!

There are several New Orleans day trips that take you just outside of the city.  The closest day trip from the Big Easy is only 15 minutes from downtown, in the swamps and marshes. Eastern New Orleans has an amusement park, nature center, wildlife refuge, and early-morning Vietnamese farmers’ market.   This is a great New Orleans day trip for the family.

Another of the great New Orleans day trips is the plantation tour on Old river road.  The road from New Orleans to Baton Rouge is filled with several plantation homes worth seeing.  You can head up to Baton Rouge and have lunch then check out St. Francisville plantation homes north of the city where the Myrtles “haunted” plantation home is a must see.  If you are brave you can stay over night in this haunted mansion!

There are so many day trips in New Orleans you will have a hard time choosing which to pick!  To make the most of your New Orleans trips, book in advance, bring your camera and lots of water, as it can be relatively hot in this city, especially in summer.
