Scenic Chebeague Island is about 10 miles southeast of Freeport and about 10 miles northwest of Portland. Historically referred to as the "Island of Many Springs," it has been a popular spot for vacations for decades. Harbour seals are also found in great numbers around Chebeague Island maine and can be spotted sunning themselves along the rocky outcrops of nearby islands. A wide variety of other wildlife around the island include a variety of non-poisonous snakes, deer, and red foxes. The coastline is comprised equally of beaches as it is rocky outcroppings featuring pretty coves and inlets. Sandy stretches include Deer Point located near Chandler’s Cove and Niblic Beach close to the boatyard.

From April until the end of November, the Chebeague Island Maine Transportation Company provides transport back and forth from the mainland for freight, passengers, and vehicles. Ferry riders can park their vehicles in a parking lot located near the Cousin’s Island ferry and on Route One in the town of Cumberland. While on Chebeague Island, cars and bicycles are most commonly used to get around. Walking is also an option depending on the destination.

The Chebeague Island Inn (pictured) is the only accommodation available to tourists. It is a beautiful, quaint inn located in a restored, early 20th century, Greek-Revival home. A short, 1-minute boat ride brings guests to the world-renowned inn where a lively social scene meets classic, high-end accommodation. With it’s expansive, welcoming veranda offering exceptional views, upscale, cozy interior, and six room styles and one incredible rental home, this inn garners a fantastic reputation for good reason. Hamilton beach is closest to the inn and is about a 1 minute walk away. The inn offers guests free transport to any destination on the island. Guests also have access to complimentary bicycles during their stay. Guests also have access to fishing poles to be used at the island dock. There is a small bed and breakfast inn, the Sunset House Inn, which has five bedrooms, four with private bath. The fifth bedroom has access to a bathroom bext to the kitchen. Your room provides access to the kitchen, so you can make your own lunch and dinner if you like. The entire house is available for rent to small groups. There are also a handful of vacation rentals ranging from elegant homes to rustic cabins. There are several outfitting companies on Chebeague Island Maine offering boat and kayak rentals, and a ferry and water taxi whisking visitors off to neighboring islands including Great Diamond.
