The Boston Museum of Science is an esteemed museum and
one of the oldest found in the U.S. More than 1.7 million
people visit and explore the Boston Museum of science
every year making it one of the most often visited cultural
points of interest in the city. Captivating and interactive
approaches used by the Boston Museum of Science keep visitors
interested by actively showing how fun, exciting and significant
science is.
Live demonstrations are of particular interest to visitors so this year the Boston Museum of Science has implemented a science show called “Science Live!” near the new “Natural Mysteries” exhibit. The Boston Science Museum has recently premiered “Discovering Chimpanzees: The Remarkable World of Jane Goodall”. This impressive display features 4 stimulating exhibits and presents a more personal look at Jane Goodall’s life and work with chimps in Tanzania.
Other exhibits at the Boston Science Museum include A Bird’s world which offers a virtual tour of Acadia National Park, Beyond the X-Ray showcasing fascinating medical technology images and Earth: Inside Out, which explores the processes beneath the Earth’s crust. Those are just a few of the over 30 exhibits at the Boston Science Museum. Although they do run for some time, exhibits do change so be sure to look at a current pamphlet or the website for the most current exhibit listings. There is also an IMAX and 3-D Digital Cinema inside the museum.
The Boston Science Museum offers so many things to see and do no wonder this is one of the most popular museums in the city! Also offered by the Boston Science Museums are features such as podcasts, virtual exhibits, lectures, courses for kids and adults and the Lyman Library which offers a broad collection of periodicals, books, videos, DVDs and CD-ROMs in the areas of technology, engineering and science for educators and students.
The Museum of Science Boston is located in the west
end of the city and can be reached by car, subway or foot.
By foot it is about 15-20 minutes from the downtown area.
The Green subway line stops closest to the museum is at
the Science Park just half a block away. The Red subway
line stops a little further away at the Charles M.G.H
by the Longfellow Bridge and is a couple of blocks
walk.
The Museum of Science Boston public parking can accommodate up to 850 vehicles on a first come, first serve basis. Parking rates vary depending on how much time is spent at the Museum. Alternative parking can be found at TD Banknorth Garden or the Cambridgeside Galleria Mall which then presents an opportunity to get some shopping in!
The Museum of Science Boston keeps regular hours through July 4 from Saturday to Thursday 9am to 5pm and Fridays from 9am to 9m. Summer hours are from July through September and are Saturday to Thursday 9am to 7pm and Friday 9am to 9pm. The Museum of Science Boston special hours vary. The museum is closed for a few days in September, November and 3 days over Christmas so be sure to check hours before setting out to visit. Rates also vary according to which exhibits are visited. Regular exhibit halls are from $13.00 to $16.00. Extra exhibits such as the Planetarium and Laser show do cost extra. Inquire at the museum for detailed rates.
Visiting the Science Museum is an excellent way to fill
up to half of a day
trip in the city of Boston.
Be aware that the museum is best visited early morning
or late afternoon. The rest of the time, especially on
weekend, exhibits can be packed with people. Nearby attractions
include Hayden Planetarium, the Fleet Center and the Sport’s
Museum. Faneuil
Hall Marketplace can also be reached by a short subway
ride along the Green line.
