Cape Cod Bed and Breakfasts

The Cape Cod bed and breakfasts figure among the most charming and quaint B&Bs in the country, and since they are very plentiful in number, finding a good one should be easy. They can be found in island towns from Barnstable to Hyannis. As is true with Cape Cod accommodations in general, however, waiting until the last minute to book a Cape Cod B&B is not encouraged during the peak summer season, as this is a popular vacation spot.

Cape Cod is home to some of the oldest towns in the country, and this is partly evidenced by the fact that there are many lovely old homes around the island. A good number of these homes have been converted into both bed and breakfasts and inns. At the very best ones, historical charm is evident throughout, though modern amenities aren't lacking. Free high-speed Internet access is an example of a common amenity, and depending on which guest unit you book, cable TV and things like a DVD player and/or a CD player might also be on the amenity list.

Cape Cod lodging is in good supply all over the island. In fact, there are more than 250 Cape Cod inns and B&Bs to choose from alone. The inns and B&Bs are similar in many ways, with the main difference often coming down to total room counts. Your typical Cape Cod B&B has fewer rooms than a typical inn, which only makes it that much more important to book your stay well in advance when going the B&B route.

Since there are so many great Cape Cod B&Bs to select from, visitors might worry about location before they actually get down to making reservations. Should you plan on doing a lot of recreational boating or you simply wish to be close to some great Nantucket Sound beaches and the famed Kennedy Compound, for example, then a Hyannis or Hyannis Port B&B will make for a most ideal fit.

One of the best bed and breakfasts in the Hyannis area is the Hillcrest Bed and Breakfast. Housed in a charming home that dates back to 1899, this lovely lodging establishment exudes plenty of history, and it is hard to argue with the location at 70 Gosnold Street. Guests can easily walk to the Hyannis Harbor ferries that head for either Martha's Vineyard or Nantucket, and beaches such as Veterans Beach aren't far away either. There are only two rooms to choose from at the Hillcrest Bed and Breakfast, and if they are both booked, other area B&Bs such as the Saltwinds Bed and Breakfast or the Cape Cod Ocean Manor can make for good replacements.

Hyannis and Hyannis Port are both villages in the larger city of Barnstable. This city is the largest community on the island of Cape Cod, and as such, it is home to numerous lodging establishments. On the B&B front, those who wish to stay within the Barnstable boundaries might also fancy a stay near Barnstable Harbor. At this harbor, it is easy to arrange fun cruises, the likes of which often include whale watching, and beautiful Sandy Neck Beach is always close by. Among the top Cape Cod bed and breakfasts that can be found in this area is the Lion and Lamb Inn, and it is proof that many a B&B carries the "inn" tag. Regardless of how you label it, this inviting retreat at 2504 Main Street in Barnstable is just two minutes from Barnstable Harbor, and all that is needed to get the beach are your own two feet. When guests are relaxing at the B&B itself, the cozy bedding, the air conditioning, the free Wi-Fi, the TVs, and the DVD players that are standard in every room can help to make for enjoyable moments. Also available are a communal pool and hot tub, and the outdoor fireplace can come in handy on colder nights.

These are just a few bed and breakfasts that are worth adding to your potential Cape Cod lodging list, and since there are plenty of others, weighing other available options is recommended. Chatham offers some wonderful B&Bs, for example, and they include the Beach House at 812 Main Street. Perhaps a Provincetown base will be what you prefer, in which case the Seasons B&B at 160 Bradford Street is worth keeping in mind. All you have to do is start searching, and soon enough, you will likely have a long list of Cape Cod B&Bs that fit your preference.
