Nantucket golf clubs are some of the premiere attractions on this popular island vacation destination. There is an excellent selection of courses dispersed throughout the island. All of them offer not only challenging play, but also breathtaking scenery. Forty percent of Nantucket Island is officially designated as protected conservation land, and the golf courses are tastefully and artfully integrated into some of the most beautiful parts of the island. An advantage for golfers vacationing on Nantucket is that there are courses at all points, including on the interior of the island. Whether it is the prestigious Nantucket Golf Club, the Sankaty Head Golf Club, or any of the other championship level courses, you are sure to have a most memorable experience.
Nantucket Golf Club
The links are challenging on Nantucket Island. There should be no misconceptions about this. A perfect example of this is the Nantucket Golf Club, located at Siasconset, on the eastern coast of the island. This is a famous golf club that is reminiscent of a course set in the British Isles. One look around at the sprawling flat fairways and the vast sand traps with the smell of the ocean in the breeze, and you can picture teeing off at St. Andrews in Scotland. Of course with all of this in mind, you can imagine that this club offers caddies, a fantastic clubhouse, and every possible amenity. If you are not a member of the club, you are going to have to make some special arrangements to play a round. The Nantucket Golf Club is an exclusive club and the fees to join are reputedly astronomical.
Sankaty Head Golf Club
The Sankaty Head Golf Club is one of the most picturesque courses on the island, largely because of the presence of the famous Sankaty Head Lighthouse within view of all of the holes on the front nine. Membership to this club is private, but guests are permitted to play the course in the off-season (between May and October). This links-style course was opened in 1923 and has remained one of the top courses on the island ever since.
Miacomet (pictured) is one of the Nantucket golf clubs that is open to the public. It is a lovely course located on the southern shore, facing out to the vast Atlantic Ocean. There is a driving range and a clubhouse. The fees are somewhat hefty, but much better relative to most of the courses in Nantucket in general.
Siasconset Golf Club
The Siasconset Golf Club is located adjacent to the Nantucket Golf Club, but this Pasteur golf course is open to the public. There are only nine holes at this course and the terrain is rather on the tough side, with thick rough and arduous greens. The upside is that the course is long and fun and, as with most all of the courses on Nantucket Island, in a gorgeous location.
There are a lot of fun activities to take part in on Nantucket Island, from fishing and boating, to shopping and dining and world-class restaurants. If you are an avid golfer, you will find plenty of alluring places to play on the island. If you know someone at the private clubs, you may be able to get in for a round, or, you can just enjoy the public courses available on the island.
