Nantucket Inns

Nantucket inns are some of the most distinctive and desirable guest accommodations on the island. They provide something altogether different than the traditional hotel stay. The history and tradition of Nantucket emanates from the walls of these nineteenth-century constructs that have been maintained with painstaking detail and effort over the years. Do not expect to find much if any price break at the best inns on Nantucket Island as compared to the hotels and resorts. Whereas they may not offer as much in the way of modern amenities, the inns do provide an understated elegance and charm that is unique among Nantucket lodging.

The Union Street Inn (pictured) is not only a gorgeous building, but also a conveniently located one. You will not find much better location in terms of proximity to many of the island’s best activities. Shopping, dining, entertainment, and cultural sites are all within immediate reach. This historic inn is located in the historic district of Nantucket Island, situated just off of Main Street as well as the Nantucket harbor at Straight Wharf. The Union Street Inn features twelve finely appointed guest accommodations that offer large beds, spacious bathrooms, impressive furnishings, and a variety of extra comforts. Some rooms feature canopy beds and fireplaces. There are suites and adjoining rooms available for larger groups or families. A full country breakfast is included with your stay.

Not all of the best inns on Nantucket Island are historic buildings. One notable exception is the Nantucket Inn, featuring breathtakingly striking design features like cathedral ceilings and broad fireplaces. This inn has 100 rooms, each one featuring a fireplace. Amenities include tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pool, and airport pick-up. If you have your heart set on a historic inn, this is not for you. On the other hand, if you are traveling with a large group to entertain, this may be a fine option.

The Nantucket Whaler Guest House is among the finest examples of Nantucket lodging. Located on North Water Street, the location offers easy access to the island’s best shopping boutiques, restaurants, and attractions. The Yacht Club and Whaling Museum are literally steps away. This particular inn is situated between Jetties Beach and Nantucket Harbor. A quick bike, moped, or taxi ride can get you to the beach in no time. There are twelve excellent rooms spread throughout three floors of this elegant, historic house. You will enjoy unparalleled access to the most exciting part of the island when you stay at this enviable Nantucket inn.

The Seven Sea Street Inn is another fabulous accommodation on Nantucket Island. It epitomizes grace and elegance, offering eleven distinctively appointed rooms in the New England style. The warmth and comfort will be evident upon first entering this beautiful inn. The rooms are spacious and cozy and the personal attention from the dedicated attendants could not be better. You are sure to also enjoy the good location within easy walking distance of the ferries and beaches.

Other notable Nantucket Inns include the Jared Coffin House, the Century House, the Nesbitt Inn, the Carlisle House Inn, and the Arbor Cottage at Six Step Lane.
